Nagelsmann extends with Germany, won't return to Bayern Munich - ESPN

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has signed an extension to remain in his post past this summer's Euros, removing any chance that he will return to succeed Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich this summer.

However, Nagelsmann ruled out a return to club football by penning a contract extension that will keep him in charge until after the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, the German FA (DFB) announced on Friday.

The DFB said that its supervisory board and shareholders decided unanimously to keep Nagelsmann in charge of the national team after Euro 2024, which Germany will host.

German media reports said Nagelsmann was on Bayern's shortlist to replace Tuchel, who is stepping down at the end of the season.

Nagelsmann was replaced by Tuchel after the former wassacked by Bayern in March 2023.

«This is a decision of the heart. It is a great honor to be able to train the national team and work with the best players in the country,» Nagelsmann said in a statement.

«With successful, passionate performances we have the chance to inspire an entire country. The two wins against France and the Netherlands in March really touched me.

»We want to play a successful home European Championship together and I'm really looking forward to it together with my coaching team Challenge of a World Cup."

German FA president Bernd Neuendorf said Nagelsmann being on the radar of club sides was a factor in extending his contract now.
