Albion Rovers boss delighted with victory over Elgin as four-game winless run ends

Brian Reid was delighted to see his side pick up a huge three points at a crucial juncture in the season with an impressive win at home to Elgin last night.

Rovers blew their visitors away in the space of 17 second half minutes, as Charlie Reilly netted in 47 minutes and then slotted home a penalty on the hour mark before Ayrton Sonkur headed home the clincher after 64 minutes.

It ended a run of four games without a win and moved the Cliftonhill side four points clear of bottom side Bonnyrigg Rose, going into their final 11 games of the campaign.

Reid told the club's media team: "It was a big game for us. We are getting to the important part of the season, coming up for the last quarter, so it was big to win in front of our fans, get a clean sheet and three good goals.

"The game in the first half was scrappy but it was nice to see a complete performance in terms of our consistency over the 90 minutes.

"On Saturday [in a 2-0 defeat to Stenhousemuir] we had a really good first half performance but it was just that wee quick spell in the second half where we let ourselves down with two sloppy goals that cost us.

"It was nice for us to get that early goal in the second half this time.

"I don't think our goalkeeper has had much to do, so that's credit to the rest of the players for protecting him.

"It's a big win but we won't get carried away."

Reid was also happy to see the likes of Max Wright and Devan McColl impress against Elgin after overcoming recent injury problems.

He said: "It was nice to see Max Wright and wee Devan McColl come in. They were excellent and played a big part.

"Max has been a bit stop-start with his injuries and his niggles. He's had to be patient but we know what he's got. He is an experienced player
