Alan Shearer names transfer priority for Manchester United after West Ham defeat

Alan Shearer has pinpointed the need for Manchester United to strengthen in attacking quarters when the market reopens while raising question marks over David de Gea and his future at the club.

With one eye on the summer window, United have already made England captain Harry Kane their primary target in the search for a new striker as they strive to help Marcus Rashford in that regard. However, defeat against West Ham on Sunday night also threw up familiar concerns at the other end.

A jaw-dropping mistake from De Gea helped the Hammers claim three points at the London Stadium as he dived over a tame attempt from Said Benrahma. But what does Shearer think Erik ten Hag and his recruitment team should do when it comes to the next stage in their rebuild?

Analysing the match, MOTD pundit Shearer told Premier League Productions: "They didn't do anywhere near enough, particularly in the final third.

"They got in decent positions, but their lack of spark was so clear and evident and they could've been playing for 24 hours and not scored a goal. Other than Rashford, they need huge support in that area... it'll be a pressing concern for them in the summer."
