Alan Shearer jokes Harry Kane should move abroad to avoid breaking Premier League record

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has jokingly claimed Harry Kane should move abroad to avoid breaking his long-standing Premier League record. The Magpies icon is the top flight’s all-time leading goalscorer but the Tottenham Hotspur striker is on course to surpass Shearer before he calls it a day.

Kane is currently on 178 goals - placing him fifth on the list - and just 82 behind the Newcastle legend. There was talk of a big-money move to champions Man City last summer but he decided to stay at Spurs.

Shearer believes European powerhouses Real Madrid and PSG would be the perfect destination for the England captain… if only to keep his record intact!

Speaking on the Match of the Day podcast, he said: “Got to find out what their ambitions are this summer. He's 29 Soon, isn’t he? “If Conte is going to leave then he is leaving (because) they're not going to match his ambition. Then Harry has to go, I think.

“I think he should go! (abroad) He should go to Real Madrid or PSG.”

Co-host Gary Lineker asked Shearer if he is starting to get nervous as Kane gets closer to overtaking his tally. The 52-year-old admitted that, had last summer’s proposed move to Man City gone through, his record would have been broken with ease.

“What would I get nervous for?” he added. “I’ve had it for 20 odd years. I do think he’ll beat it and if he were to go to Man City, in three years he’d obliterate it.”
