Alan Shearer goes viral for producing 'Match of the Day content of the season'

Match of the Day returned on Saturday evening following the first few days of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Arsenal kicked off the campaign on Friday evening with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Saturday’s action saw Liverpool draw 2-2 with Fulham in an entertaining clash, Chelsea narrowly defeat Everton at Goodison Park, Tottenham Hotspur and hit four past Southampton.

Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Leeds United also recorded opening weekend wins over Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanders respectively.

“Why doesn’t he come on over?” Shearer said, before singing “Valerie!” in reference to Amy Winehouse’s 2006 song. Watch the moment below…

Shearer’s colleagues weren’t very amused with Shearer’s singing.

Wright commented: “Oh dear!”, while Lineker, after a brief chuckle, stated: “Carry on…”
