Ajax give update on Antony after star left out of squad again amid Manchester United interest

Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder insists there have not been any developments in relation to Manchester United's ongoing pursuit of winger Antony.

The 22-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for the second weekend running on Sunday, not being included in the starting line-up or on the bench for the clash with FC Utrecht. He played no part in last Sunday's 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam after reportedly going on 'strike' and refusing to train on Friday and Saturday.

Erik ten Hag is intent on adding another forward to United's squad before the transfer window closes, but Schreuder said Ajax's stance remains that Antony is not for sale.

"The Antony situation hasn't changed compared to last week," Schreuder told ESPN ahead of kick-off. "We discuss it internally every day, also with the player. He reports himself at the club and we speak. But I want to focus on the players we have here, for now Antony is not important."

On Friday, during an interview with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Antony outlined just how keen he is to leave Ajax before the window shuts, saying: "Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face new challenge and that some interested clubs would arrive and with them, certainly a great offer.

"In June of this year, I interrupted my vacation and came personally to inform the managers of Ajax, including new coach, about my wish to leave and that they should consider this possibility, because it was a project for two seasons.
