Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder hits out at Antony’s conduct ahead of £85m Manchester United move

Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder has criticised Antony’s decision to go on strike in order to force through his move to Manchester United.

After weeks of negotiations and failed bids, United are now on the brink of completing a €100 million (£85.2m) deal for the Brazil international.

Antony was intent on joining United this summer and made his position clear earlier this month by refusing to train with Ajax and missed out on playing in the Dutch club’s last two Eredivisie fixtures.

Speaking about Antony’s decision to refuse to train with Ajax, Schreuder told Ziggo Sport: ‘I think that’s strange.

‘He was eventually called to account.’

When asked if Ajax could fine Antony for his conduct, Schreuder replied: ‘Absolutely.

‘I don’t think it’s good that it’s possible within our club. If you’re Ajax, it’s just bad that this happens.

‘I’ve talked about it with him. If you’re disappointed for a day or two, I understand, but at some point you’re a professional. Then I said: ‘I will continue with the guys who are there’.

‘At a certain point you get angry about it, like… what are we doing? Looking at the total picture, that frustrates you as a trainer, but also how you stand in the world. Then I think, ‘you’re just a player, you just have to do your thing’.

‘But my personal feeling is that it’s just bad.’
