Airdrieonians sign former Motherwell defender

Airdrieonians have signed former Motherwell defender Aaron Taylor-Sinclair after his release from the Diamonds' League One rivals Falkirk.

The 31-year-old, whose previous clubs also include Partick Thistle and Livingston, becomes player/boss Rhys McCabe's latest signing of a busy summer and joins subject to SFA approval.

Assistant boss Callum Fordyce stated earlier he wasn't expecting any business to be done today, but the Diamonds have pulled a late addition out of the bag to boost their squad in time for Saturday's League One clash at home to FC Edinburgh.

A club statement read: "We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, who joins the club after leaving Falkirk, subject to SFA approval.

"31-year-old Taylor-Sinclair can operate in a number of positions in the backline, and brings considerable experience to the squad having featured for a host of clubs around the UK, including Partick Thistle, Wigan Athletic, Plymouth Argyle and Livingston. "The Aberdeen-born defender has also been capped by Carribbean national side Antigua and Barbuda, qualifying for selection through family.

"After being named as a trialist in Airdrie’s last two match squads, Aaron put pen to paper tonight and told airdriefc.com: “I’m just happy to get it all sorted. I’ve been in three weeks now, training with the lads and getting to meet the manager and the coaching staff.

“I’ve had quite a decent career and it’s quite a young squad here, so I’ll bring some experience and obviously play some games and help the club out.”

Manager Rhys McCabe added: “Sinky’s come in and looked good, and he’ll bring valuable experience. We’re a young squad, so we’ve spoken to him about what we expect him to bring as a senior pro.
