Airdrie win means nothing yet, we're only halfway through, says boss

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe says their 1-0 win over Hamilton tonight means nothing yet, because they're only halfway through the Championship play-off final.

Callum Smith's 56th-minute strike separates the sides going into the second leg at Hamilton on Saturday, and McCabe says they still have it all to play for.

He said: "I'm delighted with the win. I don't think we were at our best tonight.

"Performance levels in recent weeks, we weren't at our best, we weren't quite clicking, from middle to front, but I can't be too angry or frustrated.

"We're half-way there, and we managed to get the result.

"I like to play football, get the ball down, and play a neat and tidy football, but at the same time you've got to be able to work hard to get it back - the best teams do it.

"It means nothing yet, we're only half-way there, but we've given ourselves a good chance.

"To have that slight advantage going into Saturday is great, but that game is done now and our full focus will be on the next one."

Airdrie's win was slightly marred by a red card for experienced defender Craig Watson as he picked up a second booking inside stoppage time, having been booked in 86 minutes.

McCabe said: "I'm frustrated by the red card, I don't think he needs to make the tackle.

"It's happened too often this season and I've said to the boys that we need discipline, especially in big games.

"It's happened far too often this season, and it's something that we will be looking at."
