Airdrie v Queen's Park: Diamonds not hitting the panic button after heavy defeats, says Craig Watson

Airdrie defender Craig Watson insists the Diamonds aren't hitting the panic button after shipping 11 goals in their last two games - and backs them to return to winning ways at home to Queen's Park today.

The Monklands men have taken bruising defeats on the road in the last fortnight, suffering a 5-0 league loss to Ayr before a 6-1 demolition at Dundee in the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup.

However, Watson insists the slump is just a blip that they will be looking to put right against the Spiders. He said: "They are tough results to take but we just have to take them on the chin and move on. We did have good spells of play against Dundee at the start of the second half so there are positives to take, despite the scoreline.

"It's not panic stations or emergency mode. We've had bad results in the past couple of seasons and always responded fantastically. It does get to you, you are never happy about a defeat, but the response has always been excellent and we need to make sure we do the same this time.

"We'll get our heads down and keep the energy high. Having a lot of young players in the team helps keep the energy high and they always stay positive.

Our pitch at home suits our style of play in terms of being able to get the ball down and knock it about on a good, big surface. It is down to us to utilise that and take advantage of it.

"Queen's Park did well towards the end of the season last year so we know what they are capable of on their day, but this league is so tight. anyone can beat anyone on their day. It is up to us to put a run of results together now."
