Airdrie star cries bring on Hamilton Accies after Diamonds hit 89 goals for the season

Gabby McGill put Airdrie on the cusp of an incredible 90 goals for the season to secure a Championship play-off final with Hamilton Accies - and then cried: 'Bring it on'.

The Diamonds striker banged in his 12th goal in his last 11 appearances in Saturday's 1-0 semi-final second leg win over Falkirk to wrap up a thumping 7-2 aggregate win in the tie.

All focus now turns to clashes with Accies on Wednesday night and Saturday evening, as free-scoring Airdrie seek to reach the second tier next season.

And McGill says the Diamonds are flying going into the first leg at New Broomfield.

“Calum Gallagher told me after the game that was our 89th goal scored this season, which is absolutely incredible," said the 22-year-old.

“There’s no wonder - Gall has scored all his goals, I’ve chipped in and Callum Smith has had chances and scored.

“It’s a brilliant style of football to play in if you’re a striker, and that’s what we’ll try to do on Wednesday.

“Everyone’s full of confidence and we’ll take that into this week. So bring on the final.

“They’re two huge, huge games.

“We want to put on a show at home in the first leg and implement our style of play - get the ball down, play nice football and create loads of goal-scoring opportunities, which we’ve down through the whole year."

Airdrie had done most of the hard work against the Bairns in the first leg with their 6-2 demolition job and it is not the first time they have hit sides for six or more this season with McGill forming a formiddable partnership with PFA League One player of the Year Calum Gallagher.

Peterhead were on the end of a 7-0 hiding, where McGill was at the double, and he hit a hat-trick as Kelty Hearts suffered a 6-1 hammering.
