Airdrie No.2 targets Partick Thistle win as they bid for five in a row
Callum Fordyce says Airdrie are gunning for a fifth successive win at Partick Thistle on Saturday, having banished their away-day hoodoo.
The Diamonds made it four wins and a draw in their five games in November, beating Stranraer 1-0 in the Scottish Cup third round on Saturday, following up from a penalty shoot-out triumph over Morton in the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-finals.
They also beat Arbroath 2-0 at New Broomfield, after knocking Rangers ‘B’ out of the SPFL Trust Trophy third round with a 4-2 victory.
Fordyce knows it’s not going to be easy to emerge from Firhill with points on Saturday, but says it’s the target, to keep momentum going.
He said: “If we get that fifth win on the bounce it’s a great achievement.
“I was lucky enough in my first season at Airdrie that we went seven on the bounce and I think that’s a club record.
“You can’t look that far down the line but we’ll take it one game at a time and we want to try and win every game, so if you can do that and push up the table as far as you can, that’s what you want.
“We’ve got to take momentum, it’s a snowball effect.
“Especially in the Championship, it’s that tough a league that if you can rack up three wins in the cup, every win keeps that momentum going and at the end of the day, that’s what you’re there to do, to win football matches.
“We’re on a good bit of form just now, with four games, so long may that continue.
“In every game the approach is the exact same, with the same mentality – we want to go out and win and play well.”
Fordyce added: “Partick are a very good side with a good manager and good players. They score loads of goals and play exciting football as well, so it should be an entertaining game that hopefully we can come out on top on.
