Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe: We can't feel sorry for ourselves after defeat

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe says his side can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves after crashing to a 2-0 defeat to Queen’s Park.

First-half goals from Jack Turner and Zak Rudden earned all three points for the Spiders, but the Diamonds had a ‘goal’ chalked off for Ben Wilson at 1-1 that looks to have been onside, were denied a penalty for a push on Rhys Armstrong, and hit a post in the second half.

However, McCabe says the only way for Airdrie to get out of their current predicament – which has seen them ship 13 goals in their last three games – is by working hard.

He said: “If the goal is onside, I’m frustrated, if it’s not... we had a few chances in that game, it probably comes on the back of a few results recently, and you can understand why the confidence is maybe a bit lower.

“B ut there’s nothing you can do about it apart from getting the chest out, and working hard at training.

“That’s the message, that feeling sorry for yourself and having that body language certainly won’t win you games of football.

“So we’ve got to quickly eradicate that and look on the forward, positive side.”

McCabe says errors cost them dearly against Callum Davidson’s side, and they need to get out of that rut.

He said: “I haven’t seen the ‘goal’ back, it’s not like I can stand here and say it is or it isn’t.

“But basic errors in the first half probably cost us, in the overall game, especially in the second half when we put in a much better level of performance.

“We just couldn’t get that first goal. I think if we had got one back then we’d have gone on to win the game, but it wasn’t to be, and we move on.

“Two mistakes cost us. There’s no way of dressing it up; 40 seconds or a minute into the game, we don’t protect the ball, play it
