Aidan Connolly piles pressure on Ross County as Raith Rovers star states 'it can make you crumble'

Aidan Connolly hopes Ross County will crumble under the pressure in tomorrow’s play-off final decider. The Raith Rovers ace insists his side have a free hit at making their Premiership dream come true in the second leg in Dingwall after Sam Stanton’s late goal threw them a lifeline.

And he reckons the pressure is all on Don Cowie’s players as they fight to save their status. It could have been level heading into the second leg had Connolly not seen an effort hacked off the line by Ryan Leak before Josh Mullin passed up a great chance late on on Thursday. But with Rovers finishing the game on top, the Kirkcaldy wide man says there is real hope among Ian Murray’s side that a first top flight spot in 17 years could still be secured.

Connolly said: “Getting the goal was important because anything can happen now. If we’d gone up there 2-0 down it’s obviously a big task, but as we know so much can happen in football. The way we finished has given us plenty of confidence ahead of Sunday. In football it’s not done until it’s done, we’ve seen it so many times before.

“The pressure is on them and you know what pressure does to people - it can make you crumble. We know it’s going to be a tough game, they’re going to try to dictate the game. So we’ll have to go there, keep it tight and try to nick a few goals.

“All the pressure is on County, we’ve got a free hit at it. We have had an amazing season whether we go up or not, we have had a great time. So we’ll go up there and have a go.”

Tomorrow will be Rovers 51st game of a gruelling season that started way back in mid July. But Connolly reckons the Championship side looked stronger than Ross County in the closing stages on Thursday. And that gives him belief.
