'Agreement in place' - Journalist reveals transfer news he's now 'heard' involving Newcastle
Journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed some big transfer news that he has now ‘heard’ coming out of Newcastle United involving Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha.
After a busy January transfer window in which the St. James’ Park managed to bring in Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood through the door, it seems as if the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium are already planning for the summer.
The likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Joe Gomez and Jonathan David have all been linked with a move to the North East in recent days, suggesting that they would like to strengthen in all positions, now that the initial priorities were improved in January.
Taking to Twitter, Talbot has revealed that the Tyneside outfit are one of a number of clubs that have now been ‘offered’ the chance to sign Palhinha this summer, with his agent already agreeing on an exit with Sporting:
“Sporting Lisbon’s Joao Palhinha – heard similar, will be offered to Man United, Spurs, Newcastle, but other Premier League clubs in the running/more likely.
“Agreement in place with Jorge Mendes to forge a move.”
The reporter did add that it is Wolves currently leading the race.
Palhinha is a player that would instantly improve the team, as he averages more tackles (3.3) and has a higher pass success rate (86.6%) per match than any Magpie to have played ten or more games in their respective domestic leagues so far this season.
The fact that he can also pass well shows that he is not just a brute of a midfielder at six-foot-three, and at 26 years of age, he has not even hit his prime yet.
Nonetheless, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, who could offer instant European football, looking to be going after him as well,
