Afternoon Tea Week in Manchester - where to celebrate and the best deals

It's become a staple of the summer season and over the next seven days Afternoon Tea Week is back across the UK as diners celebrate one of the most quintessentially British culinary pastimes.

Taking place every second full week in August - in this case Monday, August 12 to Sunday, August 18 - it's the ideal excuse to book yourself into one of Manchester's very best tea rooms, cafes or hotels for a pot of tea, some dainty finger sandwiches and scones with plenty of clotted cream.

The tradition is said to date back to the mid-19th century when the seventh Duchess of Bedford and her friends got a bit peckish mid-afternoon, and opted for some tea and sweet treats. To celebrate, this week, a number of venues are offering discounts on their Afternoon Tea offer.
