AFLW wrap: Cora Staunton brace makes big impact for Greater Western Sydney Giants

Cora Staunton played a crucial goalscoring role for the Greater Western Sydney Giants on Saturday as they bounced back from consecutive defeats by beating Cartlon in the AFL Women's.

The Mayo great kicked two goals and added a further behind in the 29-12 win at Henson Park.

Team-mate Brid Stack was a late withdrawal with the former Cork All-Ireland winner ruled out due to a calf injury.

Another Mayo star played a crucial role in one of Saturday's other games as Sarah Rowe scored a goal and a behind in Collingwood's narrow 36-34 win over St Kilda.

Team-mate Aishling Sheridan of Cavan missed the game with a knee injury sustained against Adelaide Crows on 18 September. Down's Clara Fitzpatrick featured for St Kilda.

On Friday, Galway's Aine McDonagh got a goal as Hawthorn edged West Coast Eagles 44-41 to join their opponents on eight points in the table.

Her team-mate Aileen Gilroy also contributed significantly for the Hawks with two behinds in a performance which saw the Mayo footballer weigh in with 15 disposals and 10 tackles to follow up her goalscoring feat in last weekend's historic first ever AFLW victory for Hawthorn.

Tipperary's Aisling McCarthy was on the losing side but made a positive mark for the Eagles with 14 disposals, 11 kicks and five tackles.

Clare's Ailish Considine and Mayo's Niamh Kelly remain sidelined for Adelaide Crows but their side comfortably saw off neighbours Port Adelaide 63-3 to go top of the AFLW with the sixth round of the season concluding with three games on Sunday including fixtures involving Aine Tighe's Fremantle Dockers, Vikki Walls' North Melbourne and Orla O'Dwyer's Brisbane Lions.
