Adepoju hails Ademola on CAF Best Player Award
Ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has hailed Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman as he has won the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Best Player for the continent.
The award which took place in Marrakech in Morocco on Tuesday also saw Super Eagles striker Victor Oshimen who was a winner of the award in 2023 being a part of Africa’s Best Eleven.
Lookman, a Nigerian International overcame competition from Morroco’s Achraf Hakimi and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams alongside Serhou Guirassy and Simon Adingra.
Lookman who spoke in his native Yoruba language expressed his thanks saying, “Nigeria! Mo ki gbogbo yin. E she, mo dupe” which translates to “Nigerians, I greet you all. I am grateful.”
Former Super Eagles and Racing Santander midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, said that the performance of Lookman in both club and country has been superb hence he got the recognition as the Best African Player during the awards.
He said, “Ademola did well especially with his performance with Atalanta in the finals of the Europa League as he scored a hat-trick against Bayer-Leverkusen in a 3-0 win to bring the trophy to the club’s home ground for the first time since 1969.
“This is what we have been saying that when there’s development in our football things would move well for us.
“Our players are doing well in their various leagues and all that we need to do is just to support, and encourage them to give their best to the national team.”
