Addo returns as head coach of Ghana ahead friendly game with Super Eagles

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has re-appointed Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars.

Addo’s re-appointment was confirmed by Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and GFA on Friday.

“Borussia Dortmund and talent coach Otto Addo will part ways in the summer as he embarks on his new role as coach for the Ghanaian national team,” a statement from Dortmund read.

“We wish him nothing but the best as he embraces this exciting new chapter in his career!

“Thank you for everything, Otto!”

Addo will be in charge of the Black Stars squad, when they face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an international friendly game.

The friendly is billed for March 22, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.

After the friendly game, he will travel back to Dortmund to officially hand over and take up the Ghana coaching job permanently in May this year.

Addo was in charge when the Black Stars beat the Super Eagles to the Qatar 2022 World Cup ticket.

However, he left after the Black Stars crashed out in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

His former assistant Chris Hughton replaced him and qualified the Black Stars for the AFCON 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire.

After a poor outing at the AFCON 2023, where the Black Stars crashed out in the group stage, Hughton was sacked by the GFA.
