Adam Idah on major Celtic reality check as he relishes 'big difference' from Norwich City
A point away from home is seen as a good result when you’re a Norwich City player. But it took Adam Idah just 31 minutes to realise that at Celtic it’s a different story.
The big Irish striker is still settling into life in the Glasgow goldfish bowl. And it has quickly dawned on him that the pressure of wearing a Hoops shirt is nothing like what he was used to back in Norfolk. Idah left Carrow Road in January to join Brendan Rodgers’ side on loan. He was thrown on for his Celtic debut against Aberdeen at Pittodrie three weeks ago when the Hoops salvaged a 1-1 draw.
Idah came off the pitch believing it was a positive point gained after Rodgers’ men came back from a goal down. But the 23-year-old soon discovered that’s not how it works at the Old Firm. Since then, Celtic have been overtaken at the top of the Premiership table by rivals Rangers and drawn again against Kilmarnock at Parkhead. That slip-up prompted captain Callum McGregor to suggest some of their new boys maybe hadn’t quite grasped what’s required to succeed at the club.
And Idah admits it’s a whole new experience for him since arriving from the English Championship. Ahead of today’s clash with Motherwell at Fir Park, he said: “You have to win every game here. But you wouldn’t be in football if you didn’t enjoy pressure.
“You have to be up for it and know how to deal with it. I know there’s a lot of it here. But that’s why you play the game. There’s obviously a big difference between Norwich and Celtic. In my first game at Aberdeen we drew and I thought: ‘OK, that’s a decent result.' But I know now it definitely wasn’t! The demand here is what it should be because it’s such a big club.
“The more I’m around the city I realise that it’s all football here,
