Acun Ilicali's verdict on controversial moment in Hull City's win at Coventry

Acun ilicali has reacted to Wednesday night’s win at Coventry City, which saw Hull City record a deserved 2-0 win against the play-off chasing Sky Blues. City were two goals to the good at half-time thanks to a fourth minute strike from Richie Smallwood before Ryan Longman crashed in a terrific second just before the half-hour mark, but in the closing stages of the contest in Warwickshire, controversy reigned.

Ian Maatsen’s effort looked to be going beyond Matt Ingram and into the back of the net, before Jacob Greaves produced a sensational sliding block and despite huge protests from the home fans, referee Thomas Bramall’s goalline technology did not give the goal, much to the annoyance to everyone associated with Coventry.

Skipper Richie Smallwood even admitted to Hull Live at full-time that he thought the ball had crossed the line, despite Greaves' best efforts, while Coventry stand-in boss Luke Tisdale admitted he wasn't sure based on various camera angles. Replays then showed the ball had not fully crossed over the line, and in-keeping with the rules of the game, the referee had given the correct decision, allowing the Tigers to go on and secure their second successive win away from the MKM Stadium.
