'Absolutely wound up the City fans' - Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs star's interesting antics

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had the opposition fans frustrated on Saturday evening during the Lilywhites’ impressive victory. 

That is according to Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who claims the Danish midfielder was winding the Manchester City fans up throughout the match at the weekend.

Hojbjerg played the full 90 minutes at the Etihad Stadium after being dropped to the bench for the game prior, which saw Spurs lose 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers (via Transfermarkt).

And in an 8/10 display, the 26-year-old Spurs midfielder’s efforts in the victory had the City fans frustrated, as he made three tackles and committed a tactical one himself on Kevin De Bruyne.

With De Bruyne kept quiet throughout the game, having lost possession 31 times, Gold had the following to say on the home fans’ frustrations with Hojbjerg:

“Hojbjerg absolutely wound up the City fans. He was going down a fair bit, falling over.

“But no, Hojbjerg just winding them up properly. He did a very tactical foul, took one for the team, which got him a yellow card, which stopped a City break. But I thought he played well.”

There had been some major question marks over the Dane and his spot in Conte’s starting XI recently, with a number of disappointing performances to his name.

And it seems being dropped against Wolves in the game before the trip to the Etihad Stadium had sparked the 26-year-old back into life, as he showed signs of his best form against Pep Guardiola’s men.

It is probably worth noting the immense amount of football Hojbjerg has played since signing for Spurs, which may well have taken its toll on his performances.
