'Absolute warrior' - Man City fans praise Aymeric Laporte as he reveals injury sacrifice

Manchester City's players dug extremely deep to overturn a two-goal deficit to win the Premier League title on the final day, but it appears that one man in particular went the extra mile to play his part for the team.

On Wednesday Blues defender Aymeric Laporte announced that he will not be joining up with the Spanish national team for their UEFA Nations League fixtures next month due to an injury sustained against Wolves a couple of weeks ago that requires further treatment.

"I’ve been uncomfortable with my knee since Wolves, but I wanted to help City until the end, and I am glad I did," Laporte wrote in a social media post.

"Now that the season is over I will follow the medical process and start rehab to get back to full fitness quickly."

That means that Laporte effectively played injured in City's final two games of the season, come-from-behind draws and wins against West Ham and Villa respectively.

On Twitter, City fans have been quick to praise the centre-back for his commitment and selfless attitude at a time when Pep Guardiola could not afford to lose any more of his defenders to injury.
