Abiodun inspects facilities, inspires athletes at National Wheelchair Basketball tourney
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, flagged off the BetKing 3×3 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship with a visit to the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, venue of the competition.
The event, which stated at the weekend, will end today. During his visit, the governor praised the athletes for their perseverance and commitment to the sport, motivating them to continue pursuing their passion despite the challenges they face.
“I commend all participants for your dedication. You are already winners. Your resilience to stay true to your passion is inspiring, and as a sports-loving state, we will continue to support you in achieving your dreams,” the governor said.
President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, expressed his gratitude for the governor’s visit, calling it a landmark moment for the federation and a powerful boost for the athletes.
“This visit is a significant milestone for us, and it will further promote the growth of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria. We are grateful for the Governor’s ongoing support for both wheelchair basketball and Nigerian sports,” Johnson stated.
The BetKing 3×3 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship serves as a test run for the venue ahead of the National Sports Festival, set to hold from May 16 to 30, 2025 in selected venues in Ogun State.
Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun also inspected the facilities that will host the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in May. He commended the NSF Local Organising Committee (LOC) for their efforts in ensuring the venue meets the high standards expected for the event.
