Aberdeen sell out initial Viaplay Cup Final ticket allocation as fans tell SPFL 'we told you so'

Aberdeen have sold out their Viaplay Cup Final tickets.

The Dons official website is only showing accessible seating tickets remaining at Hampden for the showdown against Rangers on Sunday 17 December, with that limited number expected to go soon. The Pittodrie club had requested a 50/50 split, and proposed that a portion of tickets be held back and in the event they weren't sold, would be handed back for the Gers to sell to their own supporters.

However, that was rejected by the SPFL, who cited previous cup semi-final and final attendances, along with segregation issues, as the reason for denying Aberdeen an equal split. Instead, they were given 19,500 briefs for the final. 17,000 of those went on general sale today and have now been snapped up within hours by the Red Army, who are unsurprisingly urging the club to get back in touch with league chiefs to point out the demand. However, it's unlikely the beaks will budge on their initial stance.

However, a further 2500 tickets are still to be released as Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows explained, while also reiterating that the club could have sold out their full allocation had they been given an even split. He tweeted: "The good news is that we are still expecting another approx 2500 tickets and we will ensure, when we get them, that priority is given to season ticket holders / higher point holders.
