Aberdeen boss hails Pittodrie star who showed bottle to handle 'expectant' fans

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin says Lewis Ferguson deserved every credit after two penalty kicks against Hibs.

The midfielder from Hamilton scored from the spot twice as Goodwin earned his first Premiership win as Pittodrie boss during a 3-1 success.

Hibs defender Ryan Porteous was sent off and Ferguson netted from the spot either side of half-time to ensure three points.

The Dons move to within two points of the top six with two games until the split.

Ferguson had missed a penalty recently against Hearts and responded to fan criticism in February's Scottish Cup loss to Motherwell. Goodwin believes the Hamilton man needs praised for keeping cool.

He said: “Lewis Ferguson deserves special mention because it takes courage to step up and take a penalty having just missed one at Hearts.

"He showed a lot of guts, which is what you need when you play at a club this size, you need big characters and we put that across all the time.

"We’ve got a very expectant crowd here and you have to handle that. Lewis enjoys the big occasion, doesn’t shy away from it."
