Abdallah Sima offside has raging Rangers fans all saying the same thing about VAR but lone pundit offers counterpoint

Rangers fans have been left bemused by the VAR decision to narrowly leave Abdallah Sima offside in the build-up to Kemar Roofe netting against St Johnstone.

The Light Blues had the ball thought they had scored when foward Roofe finished from close range following good play from Sima on the counter attack - with the Jamaica international looking to have doubled the lead after Danilo's opener. The flag had gone up early but referee Nick Walsh correctly allowed play to continue.

Sima managed to burst through the defence and did brilliantly to set up his strike partner - but it was then sent to VAR to be checked it for offside. The lines were drawn and the goal was narrowly ruled out due to the the finest of margins before Rabbi Matondo added a second. But the Rangers support have been left frustrated by the call by the officials during the Scottish Premiership showdown.

One irked punter took issues with the lines that had been drawn at McDiarmid Park, commenting on social media: "It’s these side angles that annoys me the most. How can they says he’s off side he looks level with player." A fellow Rangers fan chimed in: "I think the lines were drawn on Microsoft Art."

One critic added: "That line doesn't look straight". The criticism of the VAR lines continued was rounded off by a comment stating: "It’s not a very good angle but that shouldn’t be offside."

However, pundit James McFadden disagreed with the views of the Rangers fans - who pointed to the key role of St Johsntone defender Oludare Olufunwa in the VAR call. He said on Sky: "Olufunwa must step up at the right time. How tight is that? It's a let-off for St Johnstone and a let-off for Sam McClelland, he had the chance to deal with it and he doesn't."
