Abandoned theme park Camelot returns from the dead with 'bigger, better, and bloodier' scare experience

Abandoned theme park Camelot is set to reopen later this year with a haunting experience that is promised to be ‘bigger better, and bloodier’ than ever before.

The Medieval-themed resort, based near Chorley in Lancashire, closed for good in 2012 after almost 30 years. The theme park featured a number of family-friendly rides, as well as the popular Whirlwind, Knightmare and Excalibur roller coasters.

The entire theme park has since been demolished but the Charnock Richard site opened up for a Halloween-themed drive-through during the pandemic and has been spooking fans every year ever since.

The resort was turned into a zombie horror experience that sold-out during the build-up to Halloween last year. Lancs Live now reports that the former Camelot site will once again be turned into a spooky event later this year - and it could be the scariest yet.

Complete with live actors and 'terrifying' monsters, the immersive Scare City experience will feature a brand-new route that promises to unearth previously unexplored areas of the park, including scare zones and mazes.

Organisers say the event, which will run from September 29 to October 31, will ‘immerse you in a real-life horror experience and will leave you screaming for more’.

A spokesperson for the event said: "This is not an event for the faint-hearted, but for the thrill seekers among us. Scare City hosts events throughout October and the beginning of November, including Halloween itself – why not make this year’s spooky season one to remember?"
