A40 closure and Pembrokeshire crash cause long delays - live updates
There are long delays for motorists travelling to and from west Wales over the weekend as a section of a major road is closed for more than two full days. A part of the A40 between St Clears in Carmarthenshire and Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire is shut in both directions due to roadworks.
Traffic monitors at lunchtime on Saturday, April 20 say there is "slow traffic" due to the weekend roadworks which will last until the early hours of Monday morning between the B4314 Robeston Wathen Roundabout and A478 Penblewin Roundabout.
Work has been carried out on the stretch of carriageway between Llanddewi Velfrey and Redstone Cross since 2021, as the Welsh Government wants to “upgrade the existing road to improve safety and to incorporate new cycling and walking routes". The works will see the construction of a new 6km road, a new roundabout, new junctions and improvements made to Penblewin roundabout, located on the A40 to the north of Narberth.
There was also an accident that has closed part of the A477 in Pembrokeshire for four hours. A crash and a vehicle fire closed the busy road between the BP garage at Llanteg and the B4314 at Red Roses. It was affecting traffic between Kilgetty and St Clears but re-opened just after 2pm.
