'A prisoner is out' - The infamous Man City vs Arsenal celebration that knocked a steward out

Manchester City's last game with Arsenal saw tempers boil over over an ex-teammate.

Kyle Walker and a number of Blues were furious when former City set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, now working at Arsenal, stood at the front of the tunnel at the Emirates waiting to shake their hands after their 1-0 defeat. Jover had refused to do the same at the Etihad six months earlier when Arsenal had been beaten, leading to Walker angrily confronting him about it before being led down the tunnel before it escalated any further.

There have been a number of flashpoints in recent years when the two teams have met but nothing has compared to Emmanuel Adebayor in 2009 and nothing ever will. Quite how one goal celebration could lead to an unconscious steward, a £25,000 fine and a slapping down from Greater Manchester Police is still difficult to believe, which is probably why it remains such an iconic moment in the Premier League.

Adebayor was ahead of the trend in one sense, making the move from North London to East Manchester in 2009 - a couple of years before the exodus really began. He arrived as so many of City's signings did after the takeover: with a burning desire to prove people wrong.

There was particular ire aimed towards Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who had been the one to deliver the message that Arsenal weren't prepared to match what City were offering so it was time for the striker to leave the Emirates. Adebayor had been happy to explore his options but wasn't set on a move to City when he got the news, making him feel like he had been pushed out.
