A look back on Newcastle's victory over Southampton with Chelsea next

Newcastle United remain in the south of the country following a victory against Southampton down on the South Coast. The Magpies opted not to travel home with a trip to Chelsea on Sunday.

The clash against Chelsea is Newcastle’s second in a run of three games in seven days. In the latest episode of , Andrew Musgrove and John Gibson look back on the victory over The Saints and ahead to Chelsea.

The pair discuss Chris Wood finally getting off the mark, Bruno Guimaraes’ fantastic goal, and the possibility of changes to the XI for Chelsea. There’s also a discussion on the government sanctions placed on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and how that may impact Sunday’s game given United fans are set to be the last set of away fans to be allowed into Stamford Bridge.

Speaking about the Wood grabbing his first Toon goal, he said: “I’ve been praying he’d score, you know I’ve had the prayer mat out for every preview episode we’ve done saying ‘please let Chris Wood score’ because it would do him and the team the world of good.

“When he did score, it was a trademark Wood finish. A superb header and let’s not underestimate the superb ball into the box from Jonjo [Shelvey].

“It was a wonderful, wonderful goal that when it was struck couldn’t be topped but it was, only for the outrageous audacity from Bruno on the winner. Both goals were wonderful, and Wood will really benefit from that.

“We would have taken any goal from Chris because he needed it - off his shin, his backside, a scruffy goal but a powerful header coming on into the top corner? Wonderful.”
