"A leader" - Journalist heaps praise on reborn Newcastle ace Shearer slammed just 4 months ago

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has become “a bit of a leader” under Eddie Howe, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Howe has heavily relied on the 30-year-old following his appointment as Magpies boss and has not been let down yet.

Having impressed under his new manager, Shelvey could be in line for a new contract.

According to The Telegraph, both the Englishman and team-mate Fabian Schar are set to be handed new deals after playing big parts in Newcastle’s revival.

Shelvey has played practically every minute when available since Howe’s arrival and has even captained the side on occasions.

Therefore, it is not a surprise to hear that Newcastle want to extend his current contract which expires in 2023.

O’Rourke has praised Shelvey for producing in Newcastle’s midfield and taking more of a leadership role in the team.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “Jonjo Shelvey is performing well in midfield, seems to be a bit of a leader in the team as well, which is needed in Newcastle’s current predicament.”
