A fresh update has emerged over Pep Guardiola's future at Manchester City

Manchester City ‘don’t worry’ about another top European team enticing manager Pep Guardiola away from the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 51-year-old tactician only has 18 months remaining on his current contract and has so far refused to comment on whether he will extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola has been in charge of the Cityzens for five-and-half years now, guiding them to three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups in that time.

After enjoying some initial success in the blue half of Manchester, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss penned a two-year extension in November 2020.

But now, questions are beginning to be asked over Guardiola’s long-term plans once again as he approaches the final stages of his existing deal.

In a recent press conference, he admitted that he cannot plan too far in advance due to the need for results, yet confirmed he feels ‘protected’ and ‘comfortable’ at City.

Guardiola also revealed the decision to stay beyond 2023 or to depart will be taken with the club, as has happened in similar scenarios in the past.

“Together, we have made decisions in the past, to extend the contract two times, and it will be the same now. It depends how they feel about me and how I feel with the club,” he said.

Despite his outstanding pedigree and reputation, Jones has disclosed how City don’t believe there’s another ‘big club’ across the continent that Guardiola would leave them for.

Instead, the reporter believes City’s sister club New York City could be the next destination for the two-time Champions League winner.
