“A big blow” – Blackburn Rovers fan pundit issues verdict on 24-year-old’s departure

Blackburn Rovers will be aiming to reach new heights in the Championship next season under the guidance of manager Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Whereas Tomasson will be able to turn to the likes of Bradley Dack, Scott Wharton and Lewis Travis for inspiration in the upcoming term, there have been several high-profile departures from Ewood Park.

As well as waving goodbye to Darragh Lenihan and Joe Rothwell, Blackburn have also parted ways with Ryan Nyambe.

Nyambe opted against signing a new contract at Blackburn and is now officially a free-agent as his previous deal expired last month.

During his time at the club, the 24-year-old made 152 appearances in the Championship whilst he also represented Rovers on 29 occasions in League One.

Although Blackburn are currently able to call upon the services of Joe Rankin-Costello who has featured in the right-back position in previous seasons, they will need to strengthen their options in this area of the pitch between now and the end of the transfer window.

Making reference to Nyambe, FLW’s Blackburn Rovers fan pundit Toby Wilding has admitted that losing him this summer is a big blow for the club.

Speaking to FLW, Wilding said: “I definitely think this is a big blow for Rovers.

“Ryan Nyambe for me has been one of the most reliable figures in that side over the past few years, so obviously that’s a setback to lose him, not least when he’s going for nothing.

“At a time when you feel given the quality that he did have, they could have potentially received quite a decent fee for him in different circumstances.

“So it’s massively disappointing in that sense and something that’s enhanced by the fact that he’s an academy product which has been such a big thing for the club in the last few years.
