The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), is set to host the second edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship scheduled for November in Abuja.
NSF President, Engineer Toke Aka, said the federation is working closely with the Scrabble Associations of Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone for a hitch free championship.

According to him, 75 players from five countries in West Africa are expected to compete at the championship. Nigeria scrabble player, Eta Karo, won the individual category in the Inaugural edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship, while Team Nigeria also came out victorious in the team event in Ghana, last year.

The NSF President said Abuja got the nod to host the regional scrabble tournament because of its ‘strategic location, with excellent hotel facilities, strong government presence and sporting culture.’

He added that the federation needs about 50 million to host the West Africa Scrabble Championship, just as he revealed that members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Championship will be announced early next month.

Engineer Aka further stated that the West Africa Scrabble Championship (WASC) is one of the major events in the calendar of the NSF. Nine Nigerians were among the top 10 at the close of the inaugural edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship.
