£64m Man City transfer question remains as £145m summer cannot mask Erling Haaland concern

Manchester City may have made a perfect start to the new Premier League season, but there is always more work to be done when you are the defending champions - especially when it comes to transfers.

City have developed a reputation for being savvy transfer operators in recent years, and it was more of the same in the latest summer window as last season's title winners made a huge profit with some excellent sales.

The champions agreed almost £145m of guaranteed sales this summer while only spending £23m themselves on Savinho, with Ilkay Gundogan also arriving on a free transfer. The standout sale was Julian Alvarez's £64m exit to Atletico Madrid, meaning City will have plenty of cash to spend in January should they wish to.

Alvarez's exit drew a mixed reaction from City fans given how many useful goals he scored while at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland’s incredible start to the new season - two hat-tricks, and seven League goals in total in the first three games - suggests he is better than ever, though it seems City's post-Alvarez plans remain a key concern for supporters ahead of January.

MEN Sport polled readers last week on the big questions facing City after the transfer window shut. The results show fans are by and large supportive of City's summer business, but there is room for improvement.

Of the nearly 1,700 fans polled, 43% are content with City's summer window; 32% are 'very happy', while 12% are 'not happy at all'. There is still huge support for City's owners and Guardiola in general:
