61 separate injuries and more than 350 games missed - analysing Manchester United's injury crises

It was during Sir Alex Ferguson's final season that Manchester United held a press conference to announce Toshiba as its official medical systems partner.

Ferguson lauded Toshiba as a "big signing" at its unveiling. "We made a couple of signings in the summer but this is a big signing," he proclaimed. "This fantastic partnership will put us above most clubs in the world.

"Sometimes maybe the supporters don't see that. But we'll see the benefits and the players will appreciate it. This is fantastic progress."

United began that season with a central defensive axis of Nemanja Vidic and Michael Carrick. Jonny Evans and Phil Jones were injured again and Rio Ferdinand was ruled out days before the season opener against Everton.

Journalists Mark Ogden and Paul Hetherington were banned for reporting Ferdinand's absence at Goodison Park ahead of the Monday evening kick-off. Everton exploited United's air sickness and Marouane Fellaini nodded in the only goal.

Ferguson, Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all had to cope with depleted squads at one point or another. Ferguson had "an injury crisis of major proportions" during the run-in in 2007 when Dong Fangzhuo, Kieran Lee, Craig Cathcart and Chris Eagles cropped up on the bench.
