4 Cardiff City transfer matters that Steve Morison will have to deal with very soon
Cardiff City are already looking ahead to 2022/23 and building on what Steve Morison has started putting in place in South Wales.
Morison had a decent impact after taking control of Cardiff mid-season. It wasn’t perfect by any means but there are foundations there to build on moving into a new season.
Before that season comes around, though, there’s a summer transfer window to manoeuvre through and we know how important that will be to shaping what the ambition is in the Championship.
Signings will have to be made to pad out the squad, whilst others might still leave as we await Cardiff’s retained list that’s due in the next week.
Here, we take a look at FOUR transfer matters that Morison will have to deal with before long:
The retained list
We will start with what’s to come almost immediately.
As per Wales Online, the club’s retained list is due in just a week and, with 10 players out of contract in South Wales, there are some big decisions to make for Morison.
It’s claimed that as many as eight of those players could be on the move: Alex Smithies, Marlon Pack, Aden Flint, Ciaron Brown, Will Vaulks, Josh Murphy, Isaac Vassell and Leandro Bacuna.
Exploring the loan market
Morison made good use of the Premier League loan market back in the January transfer window, with Cody Drameh and Tommy Doyle really good additions from Leeds United and Manchester City respectively.
Drameh will surely be considered a starting option at Leeds if they slip back into the Championship, despite Cardiff’s well-known ambition to bring him back.
Doyle, meanwhile, isn’t going to be short of suitors in the summer given how he’s played during his stint at Cardiff.
There will probably be conversations about bringing that pair back to the club,
