4 big Aberdeen vs Celtic ref calls from 'bottled' Maik Nawrocki red card to unanimous Richard Jensen penalty verdict

It was a thriller at Pittodrie - and a busy afternoon for referee Steven McLean as Aberdeen were held by league leaders Celtic.

After watching the visitors dominate the first half, Peter Leven saw his side take a lead in the second half as Bojan Miovski shrugged off Maik Nawrocki to rattle the ball beyond Joe Hart and into the bottom corner. However, Brendan Rodgers men would level the game as January recruit Nicolas Kuhn climbed off the bench to net his first goal for the club - as his deflected effort beat Kelle Roos.

It was an end-to-end encounter with both sides feeling they could have won the game - and there was plenty of talking points sparked by ref McLean and Steven Kirkland in the VAR room. Both sides had a goal chalked off for offside - and that was far from the end of the big issues coming out of the Granite City.

But what were the big issues coming out of the clash? Record Sport takes a look.

Celtic had the ball in the net inside the opening 10 minutes - but it was ruled out after a lengthy VAR check. Liel Abada struck the ball on the right flank but was denied by Kelle Roos. The Honduran was on hand to tap the rebound into an empty net. While the goal was initially given - it appeared to be a clear offside.

Chris Sutton was baffled that the decision took so long on Sky Sports commentary: “There may be an offside as Abada shoots. I think Palma is in an offside position. When Abada shoot Palma is in an offside position so I’m not sure what the wait is for. Why are we waiting so long for this? We got there in the end”

Just before the break, Paulo Bernardo tried his luck from the edge of the penalty box. Richard Jensen blocked the shot - with the ball appeared to hit his arm. Charlie Mulgrew insisted it
