£31.5m star 'will stay' at Old Trafford under Ten Hag

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the club and ‘give it a crack’ under incoming manager Erik ten Hag, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner re-joined the Red Devils in the summer from Juventus in a deal potentially rising to £19.8m if certain add-ons are met after 12 years away from the club.

It was hoped that Ronaldo would be the catalyst needed to propel United to their first Premier League title since 2013 after they finished in second place last term.

However, things have not gone to plan for the 20-time English champions or the immensely talented 37-year-old.

Despite Ronaldo registering 22 goals and three assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, United are currently lingering in sixth position in the top-flight table and are out of all the cup competitions.

There have even been suggestions that the Portugal international’s presence has hindered the Old Trafford outfit at times, with his lack of mobility meaning his teammates have to adjust their style of play to accommodate his weaknesses.

And The Mirror have claimed that Ronaldo, who is valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, will be allowed to leave the red half of Manchester for a second time if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Jones believes that Ronaldo will ‘adapt’ under Ten Hag, though, and attempt to make a success of things during his second stint with United.
