3 things we clearly learnt about Luton Town after their 2-1 win v Stoke

Luton Town strengthened their Championship play-off push last night with a 2-1 victory at Stoke City.

Danny Hylton opened the scoring in the 56th minute when he managed to get in front of Liam Moore and guide Harry Cornick’s cross beyond Josef Bursik in the Stoke goal.

Cameron Jerome doubled Luton’s lead with 10 minutes to play, when he tapped in from Kal Naismith’s perfectly weighted cross.

Setting up a nervy finish for the Hatters, Lewis Baker curled in from just outside the area two minutes into injury time, however, it was the visitors who walked away with all three points.

Here, we take a look at three things we clearly learnt about Luton during their victory in Staffordshire…

Danny Hylton can play as a number 10

When team news emerged, it was difficult to understand how Nathan Jones intended to start, as four central defenders were seemingly starting, with just one out-and-out central midfielder.

It was in fact Gabe Osho who stepped into a midfield role once again, with Danny Hylton playing slightly ahead of the former Reading man and Allan Campbell.

Hylton struggled in the early stages and was unable to find any sort of rhythm when in possession, however, his desire was unquestionable from the very start.

The 32-year-old grew in influence as the game progressed, with his goal doing wonders for his confidence.

Wing-backs sometimes go under the radar but have been massively important

James Bree is certainly in the best form of his Luton career, and last night, he put in another excellent shift.

Defensively speaking, he won’t the majority of his duels, whilst he dealt with the threat that Josh Tymon poses expertly.

It was a similar story on the other side of the pitch, with Amari’i Bell once again starring.
