3 things we clearly learnt about Derby County after their 2-0 defeat v Huddersfield

Despite showing resilience and a lot of fight, Derby County were beaten 2-0 by Huddersfield Town last night.

The Rams’ task at the John Smith’s Stadium was made ten times harder with just three minutes on the clock, with Richard Stearman seeing red.

Wayne Rooney’s side battled well from that point onwards, whilst limiting the lifted Terriers to very little in regard to clear-cut chances.

Duane Holmes eventually opened the scoring in the 75th minute for the hosts, in quite unfortunate circumstances for the Rams, when his deflected effort looped over Ryan Allsop in the Derby goal.

Any chance of Derby getting back in the game was quashed four minutes later when Jordan Rhodes found the back of the net, reacting first after Danny Ward saw an effort saved.

Curtis Davies once again shone

Curtis Davies’ consistent performances have been a reason to be optimistic about the club’s fight for survival, and he once again shone. 

The Rams were immediately put in a difficult position with three minutes on the clock, with Davies’ reading of the game, physicality and genuine desire helped prevent an earlier breakthrough for the promotion-chasing hosts. 

A lot of pressure has been placed on the defender’s shoulders this season, and with lots of young players coming through, he has been an important figure in their progression. 

Jason Knight showed great determination and grit 

It was not an evening where Jason Knight was presented with many opportunities to show his class in the final third and influence things in front of goal. 

Instead, he displayed real desire and grit to help defend from the front and restrict Huddersfield.
