Wayne Rooney shares Krystian Bielik update after Derby County’s crucial victory over Hull
Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has revealed that Krystian Bielik will be fit enough to feature in the club’s clash with Middlesbrough this weekend.
The midfielder suffered a cut on his face during the latter stages of yesterday’s showdown with Hull City which led to him being substituted by Rooney.
After failing to pick up a positive result in their recent meeting with Huddersfield Town, Derby managed to get back on track in the Championship last night as they secured a 3-1 victory at Pride Park.
Craig Forsyth opened the scoring for his side last night as he headed home from Jason Knight’s cross.
Tom Lawrence then doubled Derby’s advantage as he slotted past Hull goalkeeper Matt Ingram.
Following the break, Festy Ebosele added a third for the Rams which effectively ended Hull’s hopes of making a comeback in this fixture.
Although the Tigers did pull one goal back, they were unable to prevent Derby from sealing a crucial win.
As a result of this triumph, the Rams moved to within four points of safety in the Championship.
After the game, Rooney shared an update on Bielik.
Speaking to the Derby Telegraph about the Poland international, the Rams boss said: “Krystian is fine.
“He has a small cut.
“He will get a stitch or two, he will be fine.”
The Verdict
This is an encouraging update for Derby as Bielik has already missed a considerable chunk of action this season after suffering a serious knee injury during the previous campaign.
If the Rams are to secure what would be a miraculous survival this season, they will need Bielik to maintain his fitness in the coming months.
Since making his return to action, the midfielder has managed to average a respectable WhoScored match rating of 6.90 in the Championship.
