2 Birmingham City players who didn’t leave in January but could do in the summer

Birmingham City endured a reasonably busy transfer window last month, with five players arriving at St Andrew’s in a bid to bolster their squad.

Admittedly, some of these players were replacements for those that had left but nonetheless, manager Lee Bowyer and Technical Director Craig Gardner deserve to be commended for acting quickly with the likes of Riley McGree and Dion Sanderson leaving in quick succession.

Although the former’s departure was expected, the latter’s wasn’t and the fact they managed to lure Teden Mengi to the East Midlands as swiftly as they did was impressive considering the lack of clarity they had over their transfer budget from those upstairs.

Not only did they manage to bring numerous players in – but they did it with limited funds at their disposal and their movement during the past month, both in and out, has helped to freshen up their squad for the remainder of the season.

This was much-needed in their quest to finish the 2021/22 campaign as strongly as they possibly can, with Taylor Richards, Onel Hernandez, Lyle Taylor and Juninho Bacuna joining Mengi in arriving at the club.

Plenty of players also headed out the other way though, with Matija Sarkic (recall), Caolan Boyd-Munce, Chuks Aneke (both permanent), Harlee Dean, Mitchell Roberts and Ivan Sanchez (loan) all departing.

Fran Villalba’s permanent move to Sporting Gijon was also confirmed on Tuesday – but there were a few other players that could have possibly joined those going on to pastures new.

We take a look at just two that didn’t move on last month but could be on their way out at the end of this term.
