3 things we clearly learnt about Bolton Wanderers after their draw v Wigan

Bolton scored a late equaliser to rescue a point against promotion-chasing Wigan on Saturday. 

Jon Dadi-Bodvarsson’s late-headed goal earnt Bolton a deserved point in a tightly contested Lancashire Derby.

Wigan were dominant in the first half and took the lead through James McClean after seven minutes.

However, Bolton came out in the second half and after registering their first shot on goal after the hour mark, they continued to create.

The pressure told when Bodvarsson nodded the equaliser, giving Ian Evatt’s side a deserved point at the DW Stadium.

Ian Evatt will be delighted with a point after such a slow start, however, their second-half dominance shows the quality and ability in the Wanderer’s side. and their will be plenty for him to reflect on.

That being said, here are three things we clearly learnt about Bolton after their draw with Wigan.

They can hold their own

It might not come as a surprise to many but Bolton showed they can hold their own against the league’s best. Wigan are gunning for promotion and had the chance to increase pressure on table-toppers Rotherham, but Bolton stood firm.

Bolton boast plenty of quality and could well be one of the favourites for a top-six push next season. However, this game does show they have a long way to go if they are to turn expectations into a reality.

They can’t afford more slow starts

It took Bolton just over an hour to register a single shot on goal.

That’s a disappointing statistic considering how many chances they created after that points and there’s an argument to suggest they could have won the game if they found that equaliser earlier.

It wasn’t to be though, really highlighting the need to stamp their authority in games like this much earlier.
