2 Bolton Wanderers summer transfer decisions facing Ian Evatt when the window opens

It could be a busy summer for Bolton Wanderers, who will be hoping to compete higher up the League One table next season. 

They’re on course for a top-half finish in 2021/22, which is an impressive accomplishment given they were only promoted from the fourth tier last season.

Ian Evatt has been backed by the club in the transfer market throughout his tenure and we can expect the same again in the upcoming window.

The Bolton boss will want to add the tools he needs to push for a place in the play-offs while there could well be a few departures as well.

With that in mind, we’ve highlighted two summer transfer decisions facing Evatt when the window opens…

How hard to push for Marlon Fossey

Signing Fulham’s Marlon Fossey on loan proved a phenomenal bit of business for the North West club, with the defender quickly becoming a fan favourite due to his impressive displays from the right flank.

An injury cut his season short but Evatt has made it no secret the club want to re-sign him in the summer – the decision facing the Bolton boss is how hard to push for a deal.

With Fulham on course to win promotion to the Premier League, it’s hard to see Fossey getting a chance in the first team any time soon while his contract expires next summer so the upcoming window could be the last chance to cash in on him.

Based upon his performances for Bolton, there are likely to be other League One play-off hopefuls and potential even Championship clubs interested in the 23-year-old and that could mean they have to splash the cash in order to sign him.

There’s no denying what an impressive impact the right-back had during his tenure but Evatt does have to weigh up whether other players could be better value for money.
