£20 notes found stuffed into toaster after police storm homes across Manchester

Wads of £20 notes were found stuffed into a toaster during police raids in Stockport and south Manchester this morning.

Officers also discovered and seized more cash - including some notes that were found on an oven tray - and suspected drugs during the eight warrants.

Nine people were arrested, Greater Manchester Police said.

The men - aged between 15 and 40 - have been arrested on suspicion of various burglary, drugs and fraud offences.

They were all taken to custody where they remain to be quizzed by detectives.

The raids were carried out as part of an investigation into high-value car burglaries at homes in south Manchester and Stockport.

Searches and enquiries are ongoing, the force added.

Sergeant Graham Siddall, of GMP's South District Tasking Team, said: "Being the victim of a burglary is a really upsetting experience. We have the right to feel safe and know our belongings are safe, especially in our own homes.

"Whilst we have arrested a number of suspects, enquiries are ongoing and our fight against burglary continues whilst proactive teams focus on preventing and reducing this type of crime.

"Anyone with information should contact police or Crimestoppers, anonymously.

"This morning's action should build public trust and confidence that Greater Manchester Police is committed to investigating crimes whilst keeping people safe and caring for victims."

Greater Manchester Police can be contacted via gmp.police.uk or 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.

Information about crime can also be shared anonymously via, the independent charity, Crimestoppers on 0800 555.
