2 Legia Warsaw players ARRESTED as AZ Conference League clash descends into chaos

Two Legia Warsaw stars were reportedly ARRESTED after their Europa Conference League clash against AZ Alkmaar was marred by chaotic scenes off the pitch.

The Polish club took 1,100 fans to the Dutch city for their Group E encounter. And there were unsavoury scenes even before kick-off as travelling supporters clashed with Dutch police and stadium security officials as fears over trouble proved to be justified. Now de Telegraaf claim that two Legia stars were handcuffed and taken away by police. it is alleged that a 28-year-old Romanian player and 33-year-old Serbian - thought to be Josue Pesqueira and Radovan Pankov - "seriously assaulted" an AZ security guard as they clashed on their way to the team bus outside the stadium.

It is reported the players forced open a closed exit at the AFAS stadium as they attempted to make their way to the coach. The players boarded before an Armed Mobile Unit followed them on to make the arrest. The security guard is said to have left the stadium in a neck brace and was taken to hospital.

AZ spokesperson Wiebe Nelissen said: “Our response will follow later. “We are in contact with the quadrangle (club, mayor, police and Public Prosecution Service) and authorities.

"Something will definitely come from all of us, but not just one, two, three yet. We want to review the facts first.”

Polish outlet TVP Sport claim that the Legia chairman and owner were struck in skirmishes with riot police. Polish prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki has also weighed in. He said: “I have urged our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make diplomatic efforts to verify last night's events. Polish players and fans must be treated in accordance with the law. The law cannot be broken.”
