£15.3m Crystal Palace gem 'really good with youngsters' at Selhurst Park

Tyrick Mitchell is a popular member in the Crystal Palace dressing room, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The £15.3m-rated left-back has enjoyed an impressive season at Selhurst Park, with his fine form rewarded with his first England call-up last month.

Mitchell was given his first taste of regular first-team football under Roy Hodgson last season, but the 22-year-old only stepped up to become the number one left-back following the departure of Patrick van Aanholt last summer.

As a result, Mitchell has started every Premier League game this season, although he hobbled off injured in his latest outing against Leicester on Sunday.

He was substituted after just 34 minutes at the King Power Stadium and has emerged as an early doubt for Palace’s FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea this weekend.

But Mitchell’s setback shouldn’t overshadow what has been a campaign full of positives.

According to WhoScored, he has been the Eagles’ best defender in the top-flight this season and fourth-best performer overall, with only Conor Gallagher, Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur above him.

Mitchell makes the most tackles (3) in the Palace squad, while he also makes 2.5 clearances every 90 minutes and 1.2 interceptions. The full-back has also chipped in with two assists, although he’s yet to add to his one career goal that came against Aston Villa last May.

But Barclay revealed that Mitchell has also been playing his part off the pitch, working alongside some of the younger players at the club.
