1 goal, 23.3% crossing accuracy: Why Sunderland shouldn’t pursue a further move for 21-year-old just yet

After making a £10m move from Leeds United to Tottenham Hotspur back in 2019, then-teenager Jack Clarke didn’t look as though he would ever drop down to the third tier of English football.

But after failing to establish himself as a regular first-team in north London, he was loaned out to the Whites, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City in an attempt to get more first-team football under his belt and impress officials at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Making little impact during all three temporary spells, his career stalled, though Sunderland gave him a lifeline in January this year to try and improve his fortunes ahead of a potential transfer move in the summer.

His contract in the English capital doesn’t expire until the summer of 2023 but he will probably be deemed surplus to requirements once again this summer because he hasn’t been able to fulfil his potential yet, the reason why his Spurs appearances this term have been limited to the EFL Trophy and a UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier outing.

If he can impress at the Stadium of Light between now and the end of the campaign, he may earn himself another move to the Black Cats, who are hoping to secure their return to the second tier at the fourth time of asking.

But looking less towards the future and more on the recent past, has he done enough during his spell on Wearside thus far to suggest that he deserves another move to Alex Neil’s men during the next transfer window?

For a man who once secured a £10m move, many people would expect the 21-year-old to tear the third tier apart but judging by his stats and performances, this is something he has not been able to do as of yet.
